As PAX Australia 2023 took place, The Desert Beagle team has brought in the noise with their latest indie title, Crush Zone: Demolition Derby. A diverse range of players came to play their title.
But, little did the team know that there would be some obstacles that weekend. How did it all turn out? Well, I'm about to tell you.
Firstly, let's talk about the newly and innovative game that was shown; Crush Zone: Demolition Derby.
It's a thrilling, action multiplayer, vehicular party game, where drivers around the world enter and compete in the gladiatorial games for the grand prize using customized vehicles and weapons. In a match, players must do what they can to destroy the competition, whether it’s ramming them into walls and deadly traps, knocking them out of their car, or making use of the many weapons attached to their customised ride. Currently the only playable mode which contestants can battle in this edition of Crush Zone is free-for-all in single or local split-screen multiplayer.
How did all of this turn out though? Incredible actually. We truly had an incredible three days with literally hundreds of players rolling through and having a play. People of all ages and varying gaming skills loved how easy Crush Zone was to jump into and just start playing. With so little introduction needed, everyone from six to sixty could just pick up a controller and cause mayhem either by themselves against AI players, or alternatively, three other contestants via the local four player split-screen.
Now about these obstacles. . . Funnily enough, one of the developers that created the car based demolition derby game had experienced some car problems on their travels to PAX. How ironic! Thankfully, with the support of the neighboring and honorable developers of Grimm Bros games, they were able to assist the Desert Beagle in their time of need. Be sure to check them out and say "The beagles thanks you"!
All in all, PAX was every bit as rewarding as it was exhausting, and we certainly cannot wait to do it all again next year. If you missed a chance to play our game, be sure to play the PAX demo directly from the Steam page, where you can also wishlist to be notified about the release of Crush Zone: Demolition Derby.
Finally, A massive thank you to everyone that came to play, and to those who supported the Desert Beagle team!
